I caught his asking for 12 fives in exchange for a $50 bill. After about five minutes, he thanked the cashier, got in his car, then drove away. I was next in line, so I told the cashier that I think that guy took him. I explained how I caught him asking for the wrong amount to what he was exchanging. The cashier called for the manager who quickly counted out his drawer. Sure enough, it was short $380! That con-artist took him for a lot of money in a very short amount of time. Being the perfectionist that I am working at not being, I get a bucket of water and start to clean the areas I thought no one would notice. My dad was a medic in the Air Force, and he believed he could fix us up good enough. He always bandaged our wounds and put our dislocated fingers back in place. It worked. He told her to call the fire department, then started using cups of water to put it out. Mind you, over 50% of the kitchen was in flames! Then there was the time he ran out of gas in his car twice in the same day. Really. He was on his way to work when his car quit running. He walked to the nearest gas station, filled up a bottle with gas, and walked back to his car and put it in. He went to work, and on the way home…he ran out of gas again. I’d been having “one of those weeks!” But then, on Thursday morning, I decided to put the junk behind me and move on. I got up extra early to put a roast beef dinner in the crock pot and wait for the dryer repairman. He was supposed to come between 8am – 12noon. A few hours later, as I was walking through my house, I was wondering why there was no delightful aroma of my roast beef dinner floating through the air. I felt the crock pot and it was cold! I wasn’t sure if the meat would still be good after sitting out for three hours…but I transferred the meal to a roaster and put it in the oven. I figured, hey, it says in Mark 16 “If we drink deadly poison, it will not hurt us at all.” I assume that applies to meat, too! When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran to him, fell to his knees, and shouted “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?” Did you notice that the demons knew Jesus’ name? Have you ever wondered why? It’s because those demons were originally angels up in Heaven living with Jesus. They knew him. Jesus didn’t tolerate them for even a minute. He commanded them to leave this man and allowed them to go into a herd of pigs. The pigs ran into the lake and drowned. The townspeople came to see what was going on. When they got to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons sitting there… clothed and in his right mind. Take time to read the whole chapter. For more than ten years, I have quoted this chapter over my family and inserted all of our names in it. For example, verse 1: “Sean, Brittini, Alysha, Seanny and Tracey who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” I read the whole chapter this way…declaring it over my family. This chapter releases angelic protection. It lets Satan know that we aren’t another victim of his attacks. It reminds Satan that God has promised us long life. Satan fears a Christian that knows the Word and knows how to use it. Have you ever gone to a drive through and miles later noticed that all your food isn’t in the bag? How does this make you feel? It’s downright irritating, isn’t it?! I mean, you paid for something and then didn’t get it. One time I drove through a burger joint and ordered ten sandwiches for the five of us. I got home and realized there were only six sandwiches in the bag. So… I go back to the burger joint and explain my dilemma. The clerk asked me if I really needed ten sandwiches. Really?! I politely say, “Yes, I do. Besides…that’s how many I paid for.” Rolling her eyes, she sighs and says, “Hold on, I’ll get them.” I realize that mistakes happen, and she wasn’t the one responsible…but I want what I paid for. Besides that…my family is big eaters! I love to play jokes on people…not vicious ones, just funny ones (smile). For example, my daughter and I went to ride horses one Sunday afternoon. While we were in the tack area getting things ready to go riding, a few mice scurried around our feet. Then there were even a couple of mice in the grain bin! We jumped back…scared and giggling. Neither of us wanted to touch them, so we made noise to scare them away. Later that afternoon, I went to the store to buy five rubber mice. When Brittini went to bed, I put a couple in the shower and in her dresser drawer. The next morning when she woke up to get ready for school, I heard her scream. Yes! Many of these resolutions pertain to a healthier lifestyle. People vow to start working out and eating healthy. These are good habits to get into, but unfortunately people quit before they get results. Last summer I vowed to cut down on my sugar intake. While I was evaluating my diet, I realized I was drinking between 5 to 12 glasses of sweet tea every day. Besides all this sugar, I ate candy bars and desserts as a part of my daily diet. I really should have weighed at least 200 pounds! So, I cut out about 85% of my sugar intake. I think I handled it quite well, but my husband would probably disagree. Okay, so there was once I wouldn’t talk to him because he put his hanger in the laundry room going the wrong direction…but all in all it didn’t affect me much.
